| Sumter Academy presents its 11th Annual Benefit Deer Hunt in Sumter County, Alabama. Jan. 17,18 & 19th, 2008 Through the generosity of many local landowners, you, the hunter, will be given the opportunity to hunt privately owned and managed lands found in the deer rich woods of West Alabama. With the peak of rut normally falling during this time of the year, your chances of taking a buck are quite good. However, if luck is not with you, you'll still be able to take a doe at some point during the hunt. And don't worry about "the work". All game harvested will be taken to Dial Processors, where your trophy will be caped out. If desired, cleaned and quartered. This year we will be offering 2 1/2 day and 3 day hunts. Our 3 day hunt will begin with registration at the Livingston Community (Civic) Center the night of the 16th. At that time instructions will be given and any questions will be answered. On the morning of the 17th, after a 5 A.M. breakfast at the Community Center, you will meet your guide and depart for the field. You will travel with your guide or follow in your own vehicle, if you prefer. Once on the property, you will hunt from permanent blinds or, if the landowner permits, from your personal portable stand. Occasionally brush blinds may be offered to those who wish to watch trails, crossings or scrape lines. Late morning, you and your guide, will return to the Community Center. Lunch will be provided. After, you will meet your afternoon guide and return again to the woods. When you return that evening, a delicious meal of farm-raised catfish will be provided (chicken tenders will be also available). Fridays hunt will follow the same schedule as Thursday except, following your afternoon hunt, a bar-be-qued ribs and chicken dinner will be waiting for you. Saturdays hunt will be as the first 2 except when you return from the field that evening, your hunting trip will be over. Our 2 1/2 day hunt will be held Thursday afternoon, Friday, Saturday and will follow the same schedule as the 3-day hunt except for registration, which will be Thursday morning instead of Wednesday night. If you're looking for a good place to hunt as well as a good group of people to hunt with, you won't be disappointed. After all, we want you to come back next year. This hunt has been designed not only to help our school but to also provide you with the opportunity of taking a nice Alabama buck and having a good time doing it. Hunting fee is $825.00 for the 3-day hunt and $725.00 for the 2 1/2-day hunt, of which all but $75.00 is tax decuctable. (Costs associated with accommodations and hunting licenses are not included). Hunters must be 15 years old and be able to hunt by themselves. Fees are based on one gun per hunter. *For more information contact Joe Reed at 205-652- 6322 or Sumter Academy at 205-392-5238. |
